Below is a series of press releases written to encourage folks to come to all or any of the three open houses that QYC holds each spring. Apparently, attendance has increased since I have been doing this for them each year.

Quannapowitt Yacht Club 1st Open House Saturday May 20th
Learn About Sailing Classes and Racing for all Ages

Itís that time again! The Quannapowitt Yacht Club, (QYC) located in Wakefield at the end of Linda Road (via North Ave.) will host its first open house of the season on Saturday May 20th from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.  Additional open houses will be held on Wednesday June 7 from 6 - 8:00 p.m., and Saturday June 10 from 10 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

If you have ever wondered about all those sailboats on Lake Quannapowitt, now is your chance to learn about this wonderful local resource. And, sailing lessons just might be the perfect graduation or Fatherís Day gift.

Members will be on hand to answer questions about the Youth Sailing Program, Adult Sailing Lessons, the schedule of racing and social events for the season, and becoming a member of QYC. Guests can also take a tour of the facilities, and information about this historic yacht club will be available.  Founded in 1895, QYC is one of, if not the oldest inland yacht club in the country.

You do not need to be a member of QYC to take advantage of the youth or adult sailing lessons.  However, there are many benefits to becoming a member, including: reduced fees for lessons; a place to moor your boat; year round social activities; and, an exciting place to sail all season long in a convenient location.

Sailing on Lake Quannapowitt is challenging due to ever changing winds caused by the shape of the lake and the buildings surrounding the water. In recent years, several of our youth sailing alumni have participated in Olympic-class sailing events.

Whether you are an experienced sailor or are a newcomer to this sport, QYC offers a friendly and supportive environment for both individuals and families.
