Why Gal Friday?
Why indeed? The AGF in the name of my business stands for Advanced Gal Friday. inspired by the wide variety of services beyond writing thatI originally offered via this business, including bookkeeping, project management, and web design. Recently, I have decided to focus on my greatest love, which is writing. It is, simply, what I do best.
But, since I still use AFG, here is some background, just for fun:
What is the origin of the term Gal Friday?
The hero of Robinson Crusoe named his faithful young native companion Friday for the day of the week he met him.
Over the years, the term has been used to describe a faithful manservant, then a male assistant, and finally, a female secretary to a man—leading to a rather antifeminist overtone…
However, I choose to use the term as a figure of speech that describes someone who can do many things well and is willing to put his or her best effort into “getting things done.” And I’ll be the first to say that there are plenty of “Guy Fridays” out there, too!
